Cross-Lines couldn't exist without our amazing volunteers! We are dependent on the generosity of individuals and groups to share their time, talent and hearts with us. There are many opportunities for you to find your own special place in our family of volunteers. Whatever time you can give, whatever skills you can share…we are extremely grateful!
Please contact Sarah Kelley at email@example.com or (913) 281-3388 to schedule your volunteer experience!
Current Volunteer Needs
Our front desk volunteers greet walk-in clients and direct them to the appropriate staff member, depending on their current needs. Volunteers answer phones and transfer calls, help case managers with paperwork and filing, and give general Cross-Lines program information to our clients, donors, and volunteers. Front desk shifts are 4 hours long from 8am-noon or 1pm-4pm. We are currently looking for someone to cover Thursday afternoons from noon-4pm.
Serving a meal at Cross-Lines is our most humbling volunteer opportunity. Committed volunteer groups of 5-10 people will help prepare and serve lunch for around 200 people from 10:00-1:30, and assist with clean up.
Volunteer groups work on a standing assembly line filling bags with USDA groceries for low-income senior citizens in Wyandotte, Leavenworth, & Johnson counties. Volunteers should be able to work comfortably standing up and should be able to lift and move cases of food that weigh up to approximately 30 pounds.
The Cross-Lines Garden grows 5,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables each year. The majority of the food grown is used to supplement groceries that are distributed to low-income families in Wyandotte County through our Food Pantry. Volunteers handle all planting, watering, harvesting, and weeding.
The Cross-Lines Thrift Store provides area residents with household, clothing, and furniture items at very reasonable costs, as well as free clothes for qualified participants every 60 days. Our Food Pantry is also located inside the Thrift Store and serves low-income Wyandotte County residents with food once every 30 days. Groups of volunteers are needed Monday-Friday to help sort, price, and display donations, help with general clean-up, and help with stocking and organizing the food pantry area.
From spring to fall Cross-Lines is in need of volunteers to help with general campus cleanup which may include mowing grass, trimming and edging, picking up trash, removing downed tree limbs, etc.
